In a non-barbecue setting, a great way to cook the hot dogs from their frozen state is by boiling them. As they begin to defrost, poke holes in them to avoid skin splitting. This works better for hot dogs that weren’t home-cooked before freezing.
Keep in mind that the cooking time will be considerably longer than in the case of thawed or refrigerated hot dogs.
My favourite ways to cooking hot dogs is grilling and boiling. However, I find it easier to cook the hot dogs evenly after thawing than in its frozen state.
The best way to defrost hot dogs is by using cool water:
First up, on the grill! Grilling hot dogs is commonly considered the best method to prepare them. The type of grill doesn’t matter and any kind will do.
I tend to place the hot dogs directly on the grill. Then I’ll usually cook the hot dogs for about a minute on each of its sides or until it reaches the desired level of char on the skin.
Finally, these hot dogs are done and are ready to serve! Put them in a bun and enjoy with your choice of ketchup, mustard, relish, cheese or anything else you find delicious! Enjoy!
A second method is to boil the hot dogs! When I boil hot dogs, I’ll start by filling a pot with enough water to fully submerge the hot dogs. I then place the pot on a burner and set it to high, allowing the water to boil.
Once the water is boiling, I will then place the hot dogs in the water and turn the heat of the burner down to low. I then let them simmer for a varying amount of time, depending on taste. About three minute for softer hot dogs or up to six minutes for crispier hot dogs.
